The Brief:
The owners of this full knockdown and rebuild project engaged BetterLivingSpace to carry out all the structural engineering work for their new property, including all aspects of the building control process such as insulation, sound proofing, drainage and both internal and external stair design.

The Architectural Design & Structural Engineering:

The family home spans three floors, providing five bedrooms with three being ensuite, an office, a large open-plan kitchen and living area, separate snug, separate study, utility and downstairs bathroom. 

 

While our primary focus was structural engineering, our designers also tweaked the architectural design. The roof design was modified from ---- to----- to allow the staircase to enter into the loft and accommodate the third floor of the new design. The utility was also repositioned to enable a better use of space. 

 

The property plot is situated in Surrey Hills on a fairly steep slope. To mitigate this and allow full use of the generous garden space we installed retaining walls and stairs to facilitate full landscaping. 

The Result:

A substantial family home which makes full use of its generous footprint, with a landscaped garden offering outstanding views over the Surrey Hills and neighbouring town.
