SOUTHERLY SUNROOM
EXTENSION

SURREY

The Brief:

The owners of this beautiful Surrey property wanted to replace a dated conservatory with a ground floor sunroom-style extension to make the absolute most of the southerly aspect and the views over their extensive garden.

The Architectural Design & Structural Engineering:

The small conservatory was demolished and replaced with a 3/4-width extension, including French doors and two XL rooflights. We maintained the original access from the hallway and added a second entry point from the existing living room. This allowed more natural light to flow into the living room, which had suffered from being overly shaded, and also enabled more free-flowing space around the home. The positioning of the French doors now also affords a direct view of the garden from the kitchen.

To maintain the character of the original property we were careful to ensure a seamless exterior finish. The extension walls were rendered to match the main body of the house, while the roof pitch and protrusions, ridge and eaves height were all designed to mirror the existing roof.

The Result:

A owners are delighted with their new reception room, which can be used year-round and takes full advantage of the abundant natural light.
