Article 4 Directions in Elmbridge: Why It Matters for Your Project
Elmbridge Borough Council has two active Article 4 Directions in place (made in 2019 and 2024) that remove certain permitted development rights across parts of the borough. In practice, this means some extensions and alterations that would normally go ahead without formal planning permission elsewhere require a full application here. Combined with Elmbridge’s numerous conservation areas and protected trees, it’s easy for a Elmbridge project to need permission in situations homeowners don’t expect.
